The Office for Disability Issues at Employment and Social Development Canada is seeking your interest in participating in an innovative pilot initiative being launched through the Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF).
What is the EAF?
The EAF is a federal grants and contributions program which provides funding to eligible organizations for capital costs projects that increase access for people with disabilities in Canadian communities and workplaces, which in turn creates opportunities to participate in community activities, access community programs and services and employment opportunities.
Examples of EAF Projects include but are not limited to:
Installing an elevator or lift; Widening doorways and hallways; Installing an access ramp and automated door openers; Building accessible pathways; and Installing audio-visual fire alarm systems and/or software or peripheral hardware such as screen readers, symbolic software, voice recognition software and speech synthesizers for employees with hearing or visual impairments.
What is the pilot initiative all about?
The EAF Youth Innovation Pilot provides an opportunity for youth leaders such as you to have a direct impact in the lives of people with disabilities by addressing accessibility barriers in public spaces and/or workplaces within their communities and/or surrounding communities. As an Accessibility Leader you will be trained to help you develop a basic understanding of the EAF Program and will then receive a tool kit that includes all the required information and documents to achieve your mandate.
The next step will be to identify accessibility barriers in community spaces or workplaces within your community (or surrounding communities). You will approach eligible organizations to make them aware of the existing accessibility barriers, and encourage them to apply for EAF funding under the Youth Pilot Initiative.
Once the organization is on board, you will briefly participate in the completion of the funding proposal.
Finally, you will support the establishment of a more permanent EAF Youth Innovation Component by providing feedback concerning your participation in this pilot initiative. Of note, project proposals will be submitted for funding to the EAF and eligible projects will be funded through one-year grants of up to $10,000.
Lastly, it is important to note that your participation is completely voluntary.
How can you participate?
To participate in this pilot project as a Youth Accessibility Leader, you must be between 15 and 30 years old and be determined to make a difference in your community.
If you are interested in participating in this pilot initiative, we ask that you let the Enabling Accessibility Fund team know by October 30th, 2017 by sending an email to NC-EAF_YOUTH-FA_JEUNESSE-GD. Please note that interested participants will be receiving more detailed information about the process. Participants will also be provided with appropriate training, tools and support.

Relevant dEmploi et Développement social Canada, le Bureau de la condition des personnes handicapées sollicite votre intérêt à participer à un projet pilote lancé au titre du Fonds pour laccessibilité (FA).
Quest-ce que le FA?
Le FA est un programme fédéral de subventions et contributions qui verse des fonds à des organismes admissibles pour les projets dimmobilisations qui améliorent laccessibilité pour les personnes handicapées dans les collectivités et les milieux de travail au Canada, ce qui permet à celles-ci de participer à des activités communautaires, daccéder aux programmes et services communautaires et daccéder aux possibilités demploi. Voici quelques exemples de projets du FA: installation dun ascenseur ou dun monte-charge; élargissement de portes et de corridors; installation dune rampe daccès et dun ouvre-porte; aménagement dune allée accessible; installation de systèmes dalarme-incendie audiovisuels et/ou de logiciels ou de matériel périphérique, comme des lecteurs décran, un logiciel symbolique, un logiciel de reconnaissance vocale et des synthétiseurs de la voix pour des employés ayant des troubles de louïe ou de la vue.
En quoi consiste le projet pilote?
Le projet pilote dinnovation jeunesse du FA donne à de jeunes leaders comme vous la possibilité daméliorer directement la vie de personnes handicapées en éliminant les obstacles à laccessibilité dans des lieux publics ou de travail au sein de leur collectivité ou de collectivités environnantes. En tant que leader en accessibilité, vous aurez une formation permettant de développer une compréhension de base du FA et recevrez ensuite une trousse doutils comprenant lensemble des informations et documents requis pour mener à bien votre mandat. Létape suivante consistera à identifier des barrières en matière daccessibilité dans les espaces communautaires et/ou milieux de travail de votre communauté (ou communautés environnantes). Vous approcherez des organisations admissibles en vue de les informer des barrières existantes et de les encourager à appliquer pour obtenir du financement du FA via linitiative pilote pour la jeunesse du FA. Une fois lorganisation engagée dans le projet, vous participerez brièvement à la rédaction de la demande de financement. Finalement, vous supporterez la mise en uvre dune composante Innovation jeunesse pour le FA, laquelle serait plus permanente, en partageant une rétroaction de votre participation à cette initiative pilote. Il convient de souligner que les propositions de projet seront soumises au FA en vue dobtenir un financement et que les projets admissibles seront financés au moyen de subventions dune durée dun an et dune valeur maximale de 10 000 $. Enfin, il importe de noter que votre participation au projet pilote sera faite sur une base volontaire.
Comment pouvez-vous participer?
Pour participer au projet pilote à titre de leader en accessibilité, vous devez être âgé entre 15 et 30 ans et être déterminé à faire une différence en matière d’accessibilité dans votre collectivité.
