Settlement Reached With Shoppers Drug Mart in BC Human Rights complaint

Rob Sleath, on behalf of people who are blind or partially sighted and Access for Sight-Impaired Consumers (ASIC), and Shoppers Drug Mart Inc. have agreed to settle a human rights complaint that will see Shoppers Drug Marts in British Columbia offer prescription medication information in an audio format throughout the province.

Easterseals to Help Communities Provide Accessible Transportation for Older Adults and People With Disabilities

WASHINGTON Transportation continues to be a barrier for older adults and people with disabilities in rural communities. In response, Easterseals designed the Accessible Transportation Community Initiative to increase options for independent mobility in several communities nationwide.

Many Canadians Blind to Talents and Abilities of Job Seekers With Vision Loss

7 in 10 would choose a sighted candidate over a blind one; CNIBs EmployAbility Campaign Calls on Employers to See Past Misconceptions

In honour of Octobers National Disability Employment Awareness Month, CNIB is launching an EmployAbility campaign, calling on employers to look past misconceptions about hiring people who are blind or partially sighted.

Sunny Ways? More Accessibility Legislation Coming

But wait .. some provinces have already conducted similar consultations more than 10 years ago. Further, provinces like Ontario now have a fairly comprehensive set of accessibility standards, governed by a new Accessibility Directorate of Ontario, with the full powers of law under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005.

WIPO Marrakesh Treaty Enters Into Force

The World Intellectual Property Organizations (WIPO) director, Francis Gurry, has welcomed the entry into force of the Marrakesh Treaty.

The treaty entered into force today, September 30, three months after it received the necessary 20 ratifications from WIPO member states.
