‘They’re Everywhere’: Why Touchscreens are Causing Huge Accessibility Problems for Blind People
Nadia Mattiazzo remembers going to her regular cafe one day back in 2016 and trying to buy a cup of coffee. To her shock and dismay, she found there was no way she could pay for it.
Mattiazzo, who is blind, said the cafe had installed a new eftpos machine overnight which had a touchscreen.
Ableism in the Academy
Disabled scholars say they often rely on ad hoc agreements to get the accommodations they need to do their jobs. The lack of formal recognition has left many feeling unprotected and unwelcome in the academic workplace.

GRT Bus Strike Leaves Commuters With Mobility Issues with Few Options
Grand River Transit (GRT) bus service came to a screeching halt Monday as drivers walked off the job.
The strike has left many riders scrambling, but the impact is being felt particularly acutely by those with mobility issues. Many are now stuck, with almost no options to get around.

Workplace Accessibility Reports Under Ontario’s AODA Due By December 31, 2023
Before the end of 2023, and every three years thereafter, all businesses or non-profits with twenty or more employees in Ontario must confirm their ongoing compliance with the accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and submit an accessibility compliance report to the Ontario Government. The same reporting requirement applies to designated public sector organizations, but they must submit an accessibility compliance report every two years.

Student-Developed Smart Glove Boosts Braille Accessibility and Literacy
The smart glove is worn on the user’s right hand. A camera is located between its thumb and index finger, tracking the movement of the index finger as it traces the braille. Computer vision technology is then used to translate and read aloud the braille that was just traced.
Newmarket Man Readies for His Cross-Country Accessibility Cycling Tour
Kevin Mills is preparing for a cross-Canada bike trip like no other.
As a quadriplegic, the Newmarket resident will be completing the ride by handbike beginning next month.
