Advocates and the City of Yellowknife have called on the territorial government to develop accessibility legislation, particularly to address accessibility standards for buildings.

The washroom also comes with a wide range of accessibility considerations.

Detectors can guide people to the washroom’s entrance where they’ll find a tactile map of the washroom, including braille translations.

1 in 8 Pregnant People have Disabilities but Face Lack of Accessible Care: Report

Lead author Hilary Brown from the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences says people with disabilities have been overlooked in reproductive health care because of societal assumptions that they won’t have children.

Brown says some disabled participants in the study told researchers that nurses and doctors assumed they wanted to get abortions when they were seeking pregnancy care.
