‘You Definitely Feel Helpless’: Cambridge Woman Fights for Accessibility in New Life as A Paraplegic

Lindsay Savoy calls it her resurrection.

On July 31, 2022, she was broken, both body and mind. Crippled by mental health issues, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic where those most in need fell through the cracks, and now facing life in a wheelchair after a bid to end overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, the 34-year Cambridge resident is hoping to spearhead positive change.

A graduate of The University of Winnipeg has received a national award for her efforts to make campus more accessible to users of wheelchairs and other mobility aids.

New Fines Set For Vehicle-On-Demand Operators Charging More For People With Disabilities

The By-law department was informed that a Vehicle for Hire operator was charging a higher rate for people with accessibility issues than those without. As a result of the complaint, the Accessibility Advisory Committee provided information that confirmed the complaint in the May 2023 meeting.
