WYNNE GOVERNMENT HONOURS NATIONAL ACCESS AWARENESS WEEK BY BREACHING THE ACCESSIBILITY FOR ONTARIANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
No matter how frustrated, we soldier on, undeterred. Premier Wynne called me two months ago, warmly offering to work together on making Ontario fully accessible to people with disabilities. Today’s failure to obey the law should be a wake-up call to the government to take the entire accessibility issue off its back burner where it has languished for two years. Let today’s bad news spur our new premier to act decisively, boldly and broadly on accessibility. Let it cause her to restore the swiftness, determination and vigour on this issue that the government commendably demonstrated a decade ago, and to keep all her commitments on accessibility.

TTC Suspends Use of Wheel-Trans Security Camera Footage to Weed Out Ineligible Users
The decision follows sharp criticism from Toronto ombudsman Fiona Crean, who called the practice of covertly using the footage “just plain unfair.”

Taxi Accessibility Rule is the Right Tradeoff: James
With new regulations creating private wealth in a billion-dollar industry, it’s not asking too much to use some of it for the public good.
As Toronto struggles to reform its taxi rules specifically requiring that all new taxi licences and transfer of old licences be attached to an accessible vehicle others are watching.

The Digital Silver Lining for Technology Inclusivity
Imagine a blind person using their smartphone camera (or even wearing Glass) and being informed of what is around them or what they hold in their hand, or someone with dyslexia or learning disabilities looking at text and hearing it spoken back.

AODA Forms Are Government Collectables
What has happened to the forms submitted by businesses and services as required under the AODA legislation? This reporter took the question to the Government
when he discovered several AODA forms for sale on EBay. An exclusive interview with Minister Eric Hoskins confirmed that Government Ministers and Deputy Ministers collect and trade “especially funny” AODA forms. He regretted one had made it to EBay, but said “These things happen in a democracy.”
