Council Approves Mississauga’s 10th Annual Accessibility Plan
Mississauga’s focus on transforming into an accessible city reached a milestone this week after Council approved the City’s 10th Annual Accessibility Plan. The plan outlines new strategies and initiatives that help to remove the barriers that people with disabilities experience in their everyday lives.

Wynne Government’s First Throne Speech Signals Potential Revitalized Approach to Accessibility for People With Disabilities
On February 19, 2013, in its first Throne Speech, the Wynne Government made a promising announcement. It is shifting lead responsibility for implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act from the Community and Social Services Ministry (where it has resided since 2005) to the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment. The Throne Speech made increased employment for all and inclusiveness for all as core themes. It included this key passage:

Autism’s New Frontiers PART 2: ‘The bridge to nowhere’
The transition from youth to adulthood is the weakest link in the country’s already fractured approach to caring for children with autism
Two years ago, when Ashley Corbett of Arnprior turned 18, she entered Ontario’s Byzantine world of autism services for adults.
At best, the system treated her with benign neglect. At worst, she was invisible to it. Knowing that the wait was long for a coveted place at a provincially funded group home, Linda Murphy put her daughter’s name on the list when Corbett was just 13.
