The Importance of Sport for Children With Disabilities – and the Lengths Their Parents Go to Access It

Access to physical activity and sport is not equal. Children and young people with disabilities are less likely to engage in physical activity and sport, as there are significant barriers to their participation.

Parents are often vital in helping their children become involved in sport. In our research, we spoke to 11 parents of children and young people aged between 12 and 25 who were competing in at UK or international level in parasport. We wanted to understand their experience supporting their children’s sport participation and parasport pathways. Their children were competitive in a range of parasports, including wheelchair tennis, athletics and swimming.

Rainbow District School Board says it only recognizes service dogs trained by an accredited organization.

People With Disabilities Face Greater Accessibility Challenges in Rural & Northern Communities

Hot off the heels of an Auditor General’s report, issued on March 27, about accessibility in transportation, Bachrach told The Northern View there are issues in the report that “really stand out” to him.

Fill in Ditches Before Adding New Playground Equipment, Delegate Urges Council

Some residents not pleased with township’s accessibility plans for Boreham Park in Arkell.

PUSLINCH – Bruce Taylor is not satisfied with the response he got from Puslinch council on March 22.

Taylor has long been concerned that the plan to make Boreham Park accessible does not even come close to addressing problems with the park, located in the Arkell community.

I Almost Lost My Friend to a Preventable Accident

The other day my friend was walking home from work using his white cane. All of a sudden he stepped into a hole, dropped 8 feet, and submerged into mud and water covering him all the way.
