New Proposed Standards For Stakeholder Review

August 29, 2008

The Accessible Information and Communications Standards Development Committee (I & C SDC) was established under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 to develop a proposed Ontario standard for accessible information and communications, to be considered by the government for adoption into a regulation.

The Standards Development Committee is working to reach consensus on an initial draft of a proposed standard. As a member of the Committee, I am seeking your informal input into the draft document(see below) so that I can advise the entire Committee as to your input as it works to finalizing its proposed standard.

This will not be your only opportunity to comment on the proposed standard. Once the I & C SDC has completed its Initial Proposed Standard the standard will be sent for a period of public review by the Minister of Community and Social Services at which time you will again have an opportunity to provide input and suggest changes.

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions for changes to the initial draft of the proposed standard to me before September 14, 2008. I will be consolidating the input I receive over the next couple of weeks and bringing that input to the attention of the rest of the SDC at the next meeting of the Committee in early October.
