On the front page of the Wednesday, January 29, 2014 Toronto Star was an appalling story, set out below about inexcusable accessibility barriers that a woman with a disability reportedly suffered, on a recent inter-city bus ride in Ontario. It highlights the human toll that persons with disabilities suffer due to the Ontario Government’s glaring failure to keep its promise to effectively enforce the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.

Did You Live at Rideau Regional Centre or Southwestern Regional Centre Between 1963 and 2009?

There is a lawsuit about Rideau and there is another lawsuit about Southwestern.

Many people labeled with intellectual disabilities lived at Rideau and Southwestern. The lawsuits are about what happened to them between 1963 and 2009.

Residents Struggle With Accessibility Issues

For two years residents of this apartment at 237 Auburn Dr. have been trying to get the owner to install an automatic door.

Residents in a Waterloo apartment building will not get any help from the city or the province in their bid to have an automatic door installed at their building.

Ontario’s English Catholic Teachers Union Presses the Ontario Government to Enact an Education Accessibility Standard under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act

Here is yet more momentum in support of our call for the Ontario Government to develop and enact an Education Accessibility Standard under the AODA. The Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association (OECTA) wrote the Ontario Government on January 7, 2014 to support our call for the Government to create this new accessibility standard.

Action Kit for Raising Disability Accessibility Issues in Two February 13, 2014 Ontario By-Elections
The Ontario Government called two provincial by-elections for February 13, 2014. The parties and media see this as a trial run for a general election that could be called in Ontario for later this spring. The by-elections are in the Thornhill riding, just north of Toronto, and the Niagara Falls riding.
