W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 Approved as ISO/IEC International Standard

Today the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Joint Technical Committee JTC 1, Information Technology of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), announced approval of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 as an ISO/IEC International Standard (ISO/IEC 40500:2012).

Systemic Discrimination Toward People with Disabilities in the County of Brant

For those of you following the adventures of the variants of the County of Brant’s transportation schemes to eliminate Para transit, I submit this article to demonstrate the systemic institutional and attitudinal discrimination toward people with disabilities. By the end of December 2012, this systemic discrimination will lead to the elimination of Para transit service in the County.

Sandra Pupatello is First Ontario Liberal Leadership Candidate to Make Commitments on Making Ontario Fully Accessible to Over 1.7 Million Ontarians With Disabilities

Of the five commitments we sought, the only one in which Ms. Pupatello’s response is much less specific than we requested was our request #2, that she commit to stand by and fully honour the past commitments that the Liberal Party has made to Ontarians with disabilities regarding disability accessibility.

Web Accessibility: The Australian National Transition Strategy

Agencies must abide by the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Disability Discrimination Act Advisory Notes in order to mitigate risk of disability discrimination complaint. Agencies must provide other alternative formats upon request, but should not rely on this defence, nor consider it an appropriate long-term solution to providing accessible versions. Alternative formats should always be published at the same time.
